Over the last 30 years, we've treated websites like they're books, but digital screens allow for so much more. Digital experiences can be interactive, cross-platform, and responsive, yet the tools for building a rich digital world haven't caught up. As code generation tools level the playing field for creating websites, designers will have to build richer experiences to make their work stand out.

Today, AI tools make coding accessible to everyone, which includes the ability to make richer digital experiences, but the designer shouldn't have to work in the terminal. Pastel is a cross-platform design tool that brings the power of code and the flexibility of freehand input to empower artists to create living assets for the websites and marketing of the future.

Pastel is an ecosystem for building with the digital canvas. At its core, Pastel is universal: input however you want, whether it's sketching, drawing vector shapes, or dropping in videos or 3D models. In the Pastel editor, you can bring all these assets to life with animation and responsivity, and those assets stay alive throughout the creative process, all the way to production.

Over the summer, the team built a rendering engine from the ground up to allow for infinite-resolution paint-like input while supporting complex animation, and interviewed dozens of visual artists and designers to learn about their creative process in today's world.
